This is NOT a normal How To book...

We all want our children to be happy, healthy and intelligent—well prepared for the life ahead of them.
As the famous proverb quotes, “It takes a village to raise a child”. In publishing this guide for parents and guardians, we have collected relevant material from a wide spectrum of contributors.
How To Raise Happy, Healthy & Intelligent Kids, therefore, is a collaborative effort written for the community by the community.
Designed as a gift book meant for easy reading, the book begins with a beautiful dedication page and a special pledge written for children, to enforce their self-belief in being happy, healthy and intelligent.
Read about the five influences that affect the development of children while our editorial team shares their thoughts and experience in raising children. Chapter One: Raising Happy, Healthy & Intelligent Kids
Parenting is a constant challenge but it has its fair share of rewards too. Read how some parents cope as they share their unique parenting experience. Chapter Two: Lending A Helping Hand
We also invited professionals from various fields of child development to share their expertise. These devoted experts include child psychiatrists, psychologists, medical practitioners, nutritionists and educators, just to name a few. Chapter Three: Expert Pathways
Since children are the true beneficiaries of our programme, we have involved children and teenagers in our book. Read what children want, need and crave from parents while teenagers reveal their thoughts, needs and expectations. Chapter Four: Life. Through A Kid’s Eyes / Chapter Five: Breaking New Ground
To help guide parents and guardians through the never-ending journey of parenthood wiser and better prepared, learn about the selected products and service providers in Singapore who genuinely have the development of children at heart. Chapter Six: Community With Heart
We live in an affluent society where most children are not lacking materially. Yet from feedback and due intelligence gathered, we have observed that our young ones have a tendency to take their blessings for granted.
To address the issue, our editorial team has added a moving collection of stories from successful personnel who have conquered hardships and are thankful to people who have helped shaped their lives. Chapter Seven: Tributes To Our Mentors
In appreciation of the heartfelt efforts from the wonderful people that made our book and programme possible, we will be donating all royalties from the sales of our book to a range of charities in Singapore.

This Book is DIFFERENT...
Apart from providing pathways for parents to raise Happy, Healthy and Intelligent Kids, H2iKidz mirrors the values that can be carried into family businesses.
Itself a "social enterprise" spawned by the 70-year-old Wen Ken Group, the H2iKidz program draws on the experience of the various generations that have run the group with "love and gratitude" and, in its way, reflects that when children are well-balanced, filial and compassionate, these qualities are brought into adulthood and into the family business. Ensuring that operations are relatively dispute-free - and continue in perpetuity, leaving a worthwhile legacy."
Cheong Wing Kiat,
3rd generation successor of Wen Ken Group

Chapter One - Raising Happy, Healthy and Intelligent Kids - Shared thoughts

[jia] 家 Home

When we choose to be parents, we accept another human being as part of ourselves, and a large part of our emotional selves will stay with that person as long as we live. From that time on, there will be another person on this earth whose orbit around us will affect us as surely as the moon affects the tides, and affect us in some ways more deeply than anyone else can. Our children are extensions of ourselves.”
— Fred Rogers,
creator and executive producer of Mister Rogers’ Neighbourhood, longest running programme for children on public television.
Getting Fit For Life

Happiness, Health and Intelligence are three things all parents wish for their children. There’s an old Chinese saying, “望子成龙, 望女成凤” – all parents wish for
their children to be a dragon or a phoenix. And indeed, why not? After all, wishing the best for one’s loved ones is something that comes naturally...

[qing] 情 Passion

The route through childhood is shaped by
many forces, and it differs for each of us. Our
biological inheritance, the temperament with
which we are born, the care we receive, our
family relationships, the place where we grow up,
the schools we attend, the culture in which we
participate, and the historical period in which we
live—all these affect the paths we take through
childhood and condition the remainder of our
lives. ”

Mr. Foo Kok Sin is a satisfied man with little complaints about life. The managing director of Unitednature (F.E.), an organic and health food company, is grateful for having parents who deeply embrace strong, moral values, and a supportive wife, who uprooted herself from her home in Taiwan to marry him…

And More...

There you have it. How to Raise Happy, Healthy & Intelligent Kids. Words of
wisdom from parents, educators, psychologists and other experts – and even kids
themselves!
Indeed, in compiling this book we, as publishers, authors and editors, have learnt
a considerable amount.
Knowledge, we hope, we can use to help our own children, grandchildren, nieces
and nephews – and other young people – to become Happy, Healthy and Intelligent
human beings.
For me, the key lesson I’ve learnt has come from the last section of the book – the
tributes paid to parents, grandparents, friends and relatives from those whose lives
have been so rich and successful, despite early poverty and deprivation.
The lesson is a simple one: it’s not enough to be Happy, Healthy and Intelligent.
Leading a balanced life is about being Happy, Healthy, Intelligent – and Thankful.
Thankful to the people who have helped shaped our lives and made us who we are.
In this increasingly materialistic world, the ability to be thankful – and the need
to show our gratitude to our mentors – is a virtue to be envied. It’s the mark of true
success.
